The 3 Pillars

Twenty-one steering elements across three pillars — where you come from, how you stand, and where you are going.

Twenty-one steering elements, divided across three pillars. Together they describe where you come from, how you stand, and where you are going.

Having — the power of creation

Your past. Your foundation.

1. Family first

Your roots are the ground you grow from. A tree only reaches the sky because its roots run deep. Tend the soil first, or you have nowhere to stand.

2. Enjoy living

Notice the sweetness while it is happening. If you are too busy to see that the sky is blue, you are too busy to be properly alive. Always keep room for the plain joy of being here.

3. Respect everything equally

A snail has its own path, exactly as you have yours. Snail, tree and human are made from the same stardust. Respect for small things proves you have understood the large ones.

4. Have sympathy

You rarely need the right words. Simply carry someone's weight in your own chest for a moment. That is sympathy, and it tells a person they are not alone in the dark.

5. Protect and take care

We are caretakers of what we have been given. Neglect your things, your home, your people, and your strength quietly drains away. Looking after your world is how you prove you are ready for more of it.

6. Delight your mind with wisdom

A mind is a garden. Plant nothing and doubt grows instead. Wisdom hands you a map, and with a map you can walk unfamiliar ground without fear of being lost.

7. Have faith in your Cosmos DNA

You were assembled by the universe. Your DNA carries the endurance of everyone who came before you. You were built for this — trust that you already hold what you need.

Being — the power of awareness

Your present. Your presence.

8. Be healthy in mind and body

Your body is the house your Being lives in. If the house is falling down, the spirit cannot rest. Health is not vanity; it is the condition for doing the work you were meant to do.

9. Be proud

The right kind of pride has nothing to do with beating anyone. It is the quiet knowledge that you gave your genuine best. Wear that feeling like a coat of gold.

10. Be honest, straight and clear

Lies behave like fog — everything turns blurred and faintly threatening. Truth behaves like sun. Speak plainly and your own mind stays bright enough to breathe in.

11. Be strong

Cruelty is effortless; anyone can manage it. Strength is staying level while the storm works itself out around you. Be the rock in the water: let the waves arrive, and remain exactly who you are.

12. Be clean and pure

Water rinses the skin; kind thinking rinses the heart. Purity here means releasing anger and envy rather than storing them. A clean heart can still see what is beautiful.

13. Be positive and constructive

What broke is not ruined — it is simply in pieces. Being constructive means looking at the fallen blocks and seeing the better thing you can now build.

14. Be focused

Attention is a magnifying glass. Keep moving it and nothing happens. Hold it still over one point and it makes fire.

Doing — the power of interaction

Your future. Your impact.

15. Do sport

Tired legs are your Doing energy waking up. Moving the body teaches the mind how to lead it. A Dragon stays fit so it can actually reach the people who need it.

16. Do work

Work is how you leave a fingerprint on the world — a way of saying I was here, and things are better for it. Do it with love and the world tastes better for everyone.

17. Help others

The sweetest mango is the one you share. Helping another person is the highest form of Doing: it returns energy to the Cosmos and turns a stranger into a friend.

18. Talk soft and breathe slow

Listen to the silence between your breaths. Speak quietly and people lean in. Breathe slowly and you stay the owner of your own power.

19. Take responsibility

Even accidents are ours to repair. The moment you say I did this, you become someone who leads. Responsibility is the key that unlocks growth, and the only way a mistake becomes wisdom.

20. Resolve stress and decide on relevance

Imagine your tasks as stones in a bag. Which is heaviest? Which actually matters? Put the rest down. Decide what is relevant and the pressure dissolves on its own.

21. Live with nature

A screen shows you a small world; nature shows you the great one. Touch grass, smell rain, look at clouds — and your Having, Being and Doing click back into place.

What the three pillars add up to

Focus on the good within Having, Being and Doing and you build a life of strength almost automatically. These twenty-one elements are one half of the Mangomichi equation. The other half is what you refuse — the seven shadows.
